As a personal style blogger, people loves to ask me how to dress well, how to dress smart, how to dress expensive. While the most frequently asked question is how to dress with character. For me (get to know me more on my About page), I have my own style formulas. They are not suddenly happened, but evolving through time and trial. I stick to my style motto, mixing elegance with minimalism. Together with a little contrast to bring a little surprise to my look. If you can find your own characteristics of your style and stick to your personal formula. You can create your personal style and it will never be a boring look. Let’s get into my style formula.

  • Blazer chic
  • Power pencil skirt
  • Fit & volume
  • Romantic frills
  • Neutral tones

Blazer Chic

Blazer is an interesting piece of garment. It can be matched with simply everything. From boardroom suits to casual hoodie and track pants. All are fine! My favourite formula for blazer chic are:

  • Blazer + T-shirt + Leather shorts + Structured bag + Boots + Smart watch
  • Blazer + Soft mini dress + Booties

Power Pencil Skirt

Pencil skirt has become my staple items. No matter it’s styling up with a blazer for my minimalist corporate style, or to style down with a t-shirt and pair of sneakers for an easy weekend look. Love how it creates the feminine curve and immediately gives an elegant impression. My formula for the pencil skirts are:

  • Pencil skirt + silk/satin blouse + high heels + big structure bag
  • Pencil skirt + t-shirt + sneakers + belt
  • Pencil skirt + chunky knit + heels/flats

Fit and Volume Silhouette

I love a modern princess silhouette. A fitted waist then a volume skirt. It can be a mini, midi or maxi. The most important part is it has some volume to create a contrasting line with the fitted waist. My favourite formula are:

  • Pleated skirt + turtle neck knit + belt + heels + statement bag
  • Maxi full round skirt + fitted top / shirt
  • Maxi tulle skirt + blazer + belt

Romantic Frills Details

The trick to make a minimalist wardrobe interesting is to focus on fine details. And for details, I like frills, ruffles, tulle, pleats. Or in another word, some romantic elements to the outfit. However, to neutralise the feminine frills, the formula has to have some strong and contrasting pieces:

  • Tulle skirt + leather jacket
  • Romantic blouse + wide pants / pencil skirt + belt
  • Ruffle dress + belt + boots

Neutral Tones and Shades

To strengthen your personal style, you need to stick to your own colour palette. Also, you should not wear more than 3 colours, including black and white, at the same time. Most of the time, I even stick to only 2 colours on me. You need to think of the colour of your shoes, bag and accessories as well. My way to make sure every piece in my wardrobe can mix with each other. I like to wear neutral tones. My style colour palette include the main colour of white, black, grey, beige and muted pink. Sometimes I have an accent colour of red, muted yellow and olive green, to give a pop on my neutral mains. I like to wear:

  • All white or all black
  • Black with beige + gold jewellery
  • White with gold

My personal style formula keeps evolving with my lifestyle. Remember your formula when you go on shopping so to make sure you buy something for sure you would wear and can match with other items in your wardrobe. Though I stick to my formula most of the time, sometimes I would break the rules and try some new shapes too.
